Detail: The site for this development was located off Fakenham Road in Briston, Norfolk, and was previously under used gardens and inadequate housing. The existing dwellings were demolished, and the new units designed to provide attractive residential accommodation, with good quality blended Norfolk brick, timber and cladding used to give a contemporary appearance.
Environmental: An important feature of the site is that 2 No. bungalows in Phase 1 were designed and built to achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 6. The units are the first to achieve a zero carbon rating for any dwelling by Victory Housing Association, and will be an important test case for low carbon building for the Housing Association.
Chaplin Farrant’s in-house sustainable homes code assessors have developed the design to achieve the most cost-effective solution. The 2 bungalows received a BRE Global Certified CSH Awardfor the highest scoring CSH home in 2013.
